The motion of a title sequence
I always enjoyed motion design, so I wanted to start a personal project to continue enhancing my skills. One of my favorite shows, Jane the Virgin, did not have a full title sequence. I decided to create one based on the show.

Goal:
Produce a title sequence for Jane the Virgin by using vector art relating to the show.
Tools:
-
Adobe After Effects
-
Adobe Illustrator
Word Association:
Starting out, I researched the main cast, then I wrote down a building or setting associated with each of their characters. These were the places the character is in the most scenes with.
Michael
Police Car
Rafael
Hotel
Alba
House
Sketching
out the flow:
I felt that it was better to have two-character names placed in the same setting. I wanted the video to flow from one side of the setting to another side then move on to a new location.
Hotel
Rafael & Petra
Cars
Rogelio & Michael
House
Xiomara & Alba
Jane the Virgin is an adaptation of a telenovela, so I chose to create vectors to represent the whimsical themes seen in telenovelas. All of the vectors are drawn from the places in the show.
Capturing the whimsical essence:

Finish
with a name:
I played around with the placement of the names. Finally, I decided on a layout I liked best. I felt that there was enough space and contrast between the names and the scene.

I chose to start with the white flower in the sky since the white flower plays a big role in the show. It’s a symbol of the main character, Jane.
Symbolism:

From sketches to movement:
I placed my backgrounds built in illustrator into After Effects and created the final title sequence. I chose music that has a happy and similar tune to something whimsical.

It was also helpful to continue using my drawing skills.
-
Moving forward, I hope to continue designing more motion design projects for other purposes.
