The Branding of a Game Mode.

A new game mode called Warband was created. Before releasing it to the public, the staff wanted to create an identity. The issue was that they had no idea where to begin.

Goal:

Tools:

Develop a new brand to bring life to the game by creating a memorable logo to be used across social media platforms.

  • Adobe Illustrator

Starting from ground zero:

Starting off simple with the logo sketches, I kept a neutral color palette. I also wanted to incorporate other elements from the game like weapons and flags.

Member Insight:

After looking at the logo sketches, the clients wanted something different and gave me suggestions.

Make it busier

Using the client's suggestions, I played with sketches. I labeled 7 different options for them to look at. For the colors, the game takes place in different terrains so I used earth tones.

Maybe a different style:

The Final Two:

The clients liked logos 5 and 7, but they wanted to see more color variations. Inspired by color palettes online, I found contrasting colors to go with earth tones.

Member Insight:

The staff came to a conclusion about what they want to see with the top scroll logo.

After looking at some scrolls on Pinterest, I was inspired to add some additions like the blood and arrows. I drew the arrow based off the arrows in the game.

Final Battle:

The staff missed the splatter from before, so I added it in and we were good to go.

The logo was used on their TikTok and YouTube accounts. I provided links to the social media.

Spread the word:

Recycling:

For Discord, one of my earlier
sketches made the perfect profile icon.

  • The staff was happy to have the
    game ready for the public.

  • New players trusted this game as good quality since there was an official identity.

  • Content is still created using my logo.

  • New and existing players loved how memorable the logo is.

Conclusion:

  • Good lesson for how to begin the process with no ideas from the client.

  • It is a good to start simple until there are clearer requirements.

  • I hope to create more projects from my interest in video games.

Knowledge Gained:

An inspired player:

A new player of Warband was impressed by my designs and asked if I could create something for the plant nursery he worked at…
